B.f.t.p. 25 – And there it was – gone.

When Griffin’s Mill Lock was almost completed, access was required for the mobile crane and Lock Gate carrying truck.
In the way was a huge Ash tree, right at the end of Jubilee Bridge, between Griffin’s Mill and Ham Mill Lock.
The massed presence of 3 chain saws, Dave P, Alan J and Bob H, fully booted and spurred, gives an indication of just how big the stump was!
At the rear of the scene, the canal is there with some water and a huge amount of reeds and silt. Jubilee bridge is the white handrail.
The next image shows the size of the stump as two saws carefully work around the serious amounts of barbed wire embedded in the wood.
The smaller Ash, behind the CSO on the right, was later also removed when the dry dredgers began their work.
The operation was successfully, several chainsaw chains were wrecked by the ever present barbed wire and the crane and trucks were able to complete their task
