Over the past few months the East End Monday morning gang have been busy over the length of Canal from Siddington to just beyond the A419 outside Cricklade. Initial work was scrub clearance along the Towpath concentrating on the stretches from just above the spine road, Cerney Wick to Weymore Bridge (where the area was cleared for the forthcoming WRG Camps) and a new section for us, the half mile immediately East from the A419 crossing. These sections required several visits each to complete by the 6 to 8 regular volunteers.

During the above work it was noticed that the regular walkers along several of these stretches had been removing stone from the Towpath boundary walls to provide stepping stones through flooded sections of the Towpath! This gave us our next task, complete dismantling and rebuilding of two sections of Towpath Dry Stone wall. Our efforts might not be to full professional standards but, the results are 100% better than the scattering of stones left over from the Spring floods.

Bringing us up to date, the last few weeks have seen us on the Brush Cutters keeping the Towpath vegetation at bay at Siddington Locks, the section from Siddington to Clay Meadow Cutting, S.Cerney Golf Club to Crane Bridge & Spine Road to Weymore Bridge. Again, some of these long sections required several visits.
