Today (Monday), a trial run by our trip boat Endeavour saw another milestone achieved – we have now reached Bonds Mill bridge!
This is the furthest west trip boats have been on the currently restored navigation. I’m omitting previous operations around Blunder Lock and on the Stroudwater arm off the Gloucester & Sharpness, of course, but we’ll be looking forward to reconnecting with those as Phase 1B or Cotswold Canals Connected is completed.
This means we have confirmed navigation – with some challenges (Ocean swing bridge, I’m looking at you!) and restrictions (the sewer pipe that will be removed at the end of the current extensive works) – all the way from Stroud Brewery to Bonds Mill.
We sometimes forget the progress we’re making. What a change from when I joined the Trust, when Stonehouse Court to Dudbridge Lower was the best we could achieve. Well done to all those who have worked so hard to get here. And looking forward to the next extension!
