Harper’s Field – busy week

Monday this week saw more cars and people at the field than ever before, and proved that the extended flat parking area was necessary! Les and Andy continued to work on this moving the bog mats off the hardstanding, with Vince and Steve then moving the trailers onto trench plates and shifting the metal roofing sheets to give more useable parking space.
The boat team were at the field to rearrange the fleet so Wookey could be put back to work, with Iain and Richard ready to go, and the new 70ft mud hopper moved to the existing mooring so that welding work could be carried out by WD. Chris and Jeff then turned up on Wednesday to work on the buoyancy tank hatches and the help of the digger and Mitsi we managed to get the generator and 2 stroke welder down to the dock and these were then put to good use with a new hatch being partially fitted and the old hatch prepared for a better seal arrangement; work will continue on this next week.
The wet dredging team continued to work on commissioning Augustus Gloop with the updated mud scraper bucket as well as working on Annette II, with support from the chippies to start the internal fitting out process
Vince and Steve completed the welding work to provide supporting brackets on the container for the planned lean to shelter, and dig post holes ready for the supporting poles on the hospitality unit side. Work on this now needs the remaining posts, planks and brackets to be purchased, but hopefully can be completed over the summer to provide a drier parking area for the dump truck which didn’t want to start last week.
Alan, Jason and Kay continued work on Delilah to get the engine and hydraulics ready for commissioning, and hopefully we are now close to having another useful barge with crane ready to support as required.
The logging team continued their work with several more tipper loads of logs being delivered for temporary storage in the field until these can be cut to size and split ready for drying out at WD. All in all, a busy week with all the teams working well together whilst respecting the social distancing rules.
