More Mud Bashing at Harpers Field

Monday saw the team return to Harpers Field to continue work on the silt unloading landing stage, with a new technique being developed with Jason and Kay’s help to drive retaining piles in using the 13T digger! After limited success with 2 longer piles work was stopped as the rain started and the mud became worse than ever. Wednesday saw a return to this task with Frank on the 13T digger and Dave and Steve supporting, and in no time at all we had cut and installed 2 more long piles and driven home the remaining shorter piles which will provide tie-backs to the canal side piles once the concrete base is in place.
Attention then turned to trying to get the levels better ready for the foundations to be installed and the 13T digger made short work of this although the piles of soil (or really clay and mud!) removed are now dominating the site! By the end of the day Frank had done all the base levelling work and created a shallower access ramp meaning that we did not have to use the “abseil”” rope to get to the lower level without slipping.
Next week, weather and mud permitting, we can refine the levels and get ready to lay the base once we have got the dump truck working so that we can get 20 tons or so of hardcore and concrete down the field to the work area!
