More Stones at Ebley

by: Hugh C-J

Is it possible that a work-boat could be passing east of Ebley Mill in the near future? While investigating the origin of the stones that Richard Attwood found in the river bank at Ebley, I have identified some rather different stones in the canal bank nearby.

The photograph from the Fome Gardens side of the canal shows the stones are currently obscured by overhanging vegetation. It really would be helpful if someone could kindly clear that away to give us a better view of the stones and so help us understand their original role. Also, can anyone provide information on the recent history of these stones – were they examined or photographed when the towpath was improved?

If anyone can help. I can be contacted at archives@stroudwaterhistory.org.uk.
