Tree Planting We don’t just chop down trees we plant them! Cotswold Canals Trust Volunteers helped to plant trees for the future! A team of Volunteers from Cotswold Canals Trust (CCT) lent their arms, boots and high-vis vests to help Gloucester City Council. On Thursday 16^th January Gloucester City Council started planting an arboretum at the old boating lake in Gloucester. Justin Hobbs, GCC Tree Officer invited CCT’s volunteers to come and help plant the trees in their local community. CCT were able to provide transportation for the beautiful specimen trees from the nursery, tools for the planting and an enthuasistic group of local volunteers to ensure the trees were carefully planted.

Alongside the canal restoration CCT are committed to supporting local schemes that support biodiversity and this arboretum has been planned to replace the trees lost through Ash die-back disease.

CCT make good use of fallen and felled trees and through its logging service raises over £12,000 each year. These vital funds to pay for volunteer activities along the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames and Severn Canal. The Charity work throughout the community to improve local assets and local environments beyond the canal. If you want to support our charity by buying your logs from us or you have unwanted trees or felled timber then please call the CCT logging team. CCT volunteers don’t just restore canals, we get involved throughout the county. Please consider joining us. CCT has a huge array of roles to suit most time and physical requirements. We are a friendly bunch of well motivated people so please get involved by joining us on Mondays and Wednesdays at our depot in Eastington or view our website for more details. Volunteers will always be on hand to plant trees that will keep Gloucestershire green.
