Siobhan Baillie MP, becomes Vice President of CCT
22nd July 2020, Siobhan Baillie MP becomes the newest Vice President of The Cotswold Canals Trust. She joins others including Rt Hon Sir Richard Needham, Sir Geoffrey Clifton Brown and David Drew.
CCT’s new Vice President was welcomed to The Trust by Chair of Trustees Jim White, Vice Chair John Newton and Treasurer Matt Lee.
The visit included a tour of key areas of the Cotswold Canals Connected project, meeting partners & volunteers along the route of The Stroudwater Navigation.
Siobhan said “To become one of the trust’s Vice Presidents at such an exciting time in the journey of these amazing restoration projections is a great honour. Canals are a passion of mine and I’ve been a member of the trust for a while. I will continue getting stuck into help in any way I can. These projects mean a great deal to Stroud in terms of leisure, amenities, tourism and employment opportunities. I’m looking forward to working with the trust team and all the volunteers in the years to come to make the Stroud District full of canal towns once more.”
Jim White said “Delightful to welcome Siobhan as Vice President of the Trust and we look forward to working with her and her parliamentary colleagues. She has been a member of the Trust as a supporter for a while now and we look forward to taking her up on the offer of joining a volunteer team day”
Ms Baillie met many volunteers at various sites during the day and was impressed by the range of skills and incredible commitment that goes into making the canals such special places. The impact of the canal restoration is easy to see – the stretch at Ebley was a car park not too long ago – now there are boaters, cyclists & walkers enjoying the enormous health, well-being and environmental benefits.
She has written a letter of thanks to all volunteers that she met on the day.
