Volunteering – Eastern Depot

Construction and Maintenance
Eastern Depot, Driffield
Join our team in maintaining and restoring the canal’s vital infrastructure along the Thames end of the Cotswold Canals. Volunteers help care for towpaths, waterways, locks, and bridges, supporting clearance, maintenance, and restoration projects across multiple sites, including Coates Portal, Siddington to Latton, Kempsford, and Inglesham.
Tasks include towpath and waterway maintenance, operating grass-cutting and hedge-trimming equipment, and assisting with mechanical and civil construction projects.
Opportunities are available through monthly summit work parties, Monday towpath maintenance, and Thursday evening sessions during summer. Volunteers play a key role in preserving and improving the canal for future generations while gaining practical hands-on experience in large-scale restoration.

Upon retirement I missed the camaraderie and sense of purpose that work gave. The CCT has replaced that and given much more besides. There are so many volunteering activities both in and outdoors that keep you fit and active, with a great social side to both. I enjoy restoring part of our industrial heritage and facilitating greater access to the countryside. It’s also very rewarding when positive feedback is received from the public, showing you are making a difference and giving something back to the local community.
