Volunteering – Lengthspeople

Lengthspeople

If you enjoy the peace and beauty of the waterways, our Lengthspeople scheme is a unique and rewarding way to get involved with canal restoration and care. As a Lengthsperson, you’ll “adopt” a section of the Cotswold Canals – taking pride in becoming its local guardian and helping us keep it safe, welcoming, and well looked after.

Being a Lengthsperson is a chance to form a real connection with a special stretch of waterway.

You’ll see it through the seasons, spot changes in the landscape and wildlife, and know that you’re making a tangible difference to your local environment. Many of our Lengthspeople also take the opportunity to chat with towpath users, answering questions and sharing news about our restoration work, acting as friendly ambassadors for the Cotswold Canals Trust.

Linda

I volunteer as a towpath lengthsperson, looking after a stretch of the canal. I check water levels, report any issues, pick up litter, and keep an eye on the canal. It’s so rewarding to help maintain this beautiful community space and see the difference our work makes every week.
