Volunteering – Wildlife Monitoring and Biodiversity Enhancement

Wildlife Monitoring and Biodiversity Enhancement

Help us protect and enhance the rich wildlife of the Cotswold Canals. Our Wildlife Monitoring & Biodiversity volunteers play a vital role in surveying, recording, and managing habitats, ensuring the canal corridor remains a thriving space for nature and people alike.

We’re looking for volunteers with a passion for wildlife, an interest in ecology and biodiversity, and a willingness to spend time outdoors. Training is provided for all tasks, so no prior experience is necessary – though if you have ecological qualifications or specialist skills, we’d love to involve you too.

From bird surveys and semi-aquatic mammal monitoring to tackling invasive species like Himalayan Balsam, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved – whether you’re new to conservation or bring ecological expertise. You might also help us develop an ecological database of species records and work with local partners such as Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, Stroud Valleys Project, and the Severn Vale Catchment Group.

I really enjoy contributing to the restoration of such an important heritage and wildlife corridor. It’s rewarding work with a meaningful environmental impact.
