Tug Project – Wk3

I’m sure it will come as no surprise that we have been severely hampered by the snowy weather. Even getting paint to dry in the heated workshop is marginal and at best very slow.
However, not all was lost this week. Down in the engine room, the engine has had its oil pumped out ready for replacement. The water system will receive a full flush, once the ambient temperatures are in the positive. Work has continued preparing the two cylinder heads for refitting back on the engine. The new gasket sets have arrived and we plan to undertake this work next Monday.
It has been possible to fit the two cable pullies in which the rope from the winches will run. Both the winches have now been painted and will be fitted once the rest of the boat deck area has been cleaned and painted.
The ships wheel has been removed and prepared for repainting. We are having some wonderful oak (from a local tree) handles made to replace the bolts, which had bits of horrid hose pipe over them. Pink was the colour and pink it will remain!
The last act today was to weld a support strut to one of the engine room entry steps which had a habit of flexing when loaded with a large boot. So, it’s warm dry weather we could really do with!
