Today, Weedie headed for pastures new. Having made some inroads into the aquaflora above Wallbridge over recent weeks, we headed upstream in response to a request to tackle the growth above Ham Mill lock.
A pleasant cruise up gave crew Malcolm Webb ample chance to hit the scran bag early. The first obstacle to be overcome was a 50’ hopper that had been set adrift by some miscreant near Jubilee bridge .
Hopefully, the new mooring spot will out of reach to idle hands but will need the use of a boat to safely move in future.
Above Ham Mill we were met by a mass of Long stalked pondweed, something new to us. While it turned out to be tricky stuff to cut, it did have the advantage of being a lot easier to unload than the more usual fayre of reeds. The shallow nature of this stretch made cutting difficult in places but we did manage to get nearly up to Stroud Brewery and caught up with Alan Jones’ team making great progress with piling the boat moorings. There’ll be at least one more day’s work to finish this section, so Weedie is now moored on Bob and Wendy’s landing stage for safe keeping.
