Although a good start had been made on the Chippies woodstore it still needed a roof and side cladding, so in Steve P’s absence Ian and Vince continued work on this, and made good progress completing the roof and one side.
The following week work continued with Vince and Les working on the woodshed, and Steve and Andy starting to fit the machine shop door using the sliding door runners and mounting kit which Martin had ordered some time before. By the end of the day the door had been cut to size and mounted and appeared to work well although there was still no way to secure it when closed!
Vince and Les’ work on the woodstore came to a halt when Steve and Ron decided to move the nearby rusty container out of the way using the forklift and a set of rollers, but with a joint team effort the container was moved out revealing a nice concrete slab ready to take the new less rusty container once this had been painted.
The following week Steve P completed the half section rack and flooring in the woodstore giving an area at the right-hand side for sheet material storage and the rest of the rack with 3 shelf levels to take timbers up to 4m long. This then allowed the chippies to actually move the wood into the store giving Vince and team access to demolish the old wood store ready for work to start on extending the woodwork shop.
Wednesday this week saw another container being moved to give the full space for the workshop extension, and with more strategic use of the forklift, rollers and pry bars the container moved to its final position. This allowed Bob and Duncan to make a start on the block walls for the extension, but initially only on the existing floor slab area.
Mid afternoon the mini-digger came back from Brimscombe where it had been used to help move the heavy steel from Units 7 & 8, and Andy set about digging the foundations for the extended workshop. Space for this was very limited, but moving the spoil onto the back of the tipper proved just about possible!
Next week work can start on the concrete foundations and extended floor so that Bob and Duncan can build the extended block walls – could be a hard week mixing and shifting concrete!
