Western Depot update…

Western Depot Update Starts in Earnist
by: Steve P.
Bob A and his team were at a loose end one Monday morning so Reg and Steve P decided that it would be a good opportunity to make a start on the barn extension at Western Depot. The old fence came down in no time, and Reg and the team surveyed the site and agreed that a 3.5 metre extension could be fitted within the site boundary.

Bob A and the mini digger then started to prepare the footings, which involved digging away much of the existing bank, and then digging a trench to contain the concrete foundations. By the end of the day a large trench had been dug much to Reg’s surprise especially when he was presented with an order to sign for 5 cubic metres of concrete to fill the new trench.

Needless to say, it rained on Tuesday and by Wednesday the new trench was full of water, which at least confirmed that it was level. Some work with a submersible pump soon emptied out the water ready for the concrete to arrive at 11.30.

The concrete lorry with 3 cubic metres on board duly arrived., and by this time the team had reviewed their calculations and decided that this was probably sufficient – a good decision as after much concrete shifting by wheel barrow the trench was full to the brim!

The team then enjoyed a well-deserved late lunch with the prospect of laying some blocks to start the foundations the following week.
