WRG’s Holiday Working Party

WRG’s Holiday Working Party
by: Peter A
Between Christmas & New Year, the Waterway’s Recovery Group volunteers are actively involved working on the Phase 1B section between the A38 roundabout and Whitminster Lock.
In ideal winter conditions today, there were four work sites attending to overhanging trees along the canal and river sections. The first was just below the A38 roundabout working on the offside. A bit further down, work boat Stuart had a small crew of two dealing with some regrowth from a large stump which was overhanging the water.

A big gathering was hard at work just to the west of Stonepits Bridge, which we understand had also been referred to as Mudpits Bridge due to the layer of mud slurry covering much of the area where the vehicles had been parked.
Then, at the start of the river section, another group, armed with a cherry picker and our other work boat Jasper had felled some very large trees on the offside.

Their work party has certainly enjoyed very pleasant, relatively dry and mild conditions, in contrast to the more recent very soggy weather.

Work will continue up till New Year’s Eve.
